How to activate two-finger scrolling

On Jan 31, Apple refreshed its PowerBook line and one of the "new" features is "two-finger" scrolling. The mothership has been pushing this as a major new feature of its 2005 pro portables.

However, some pre-2005 PowerBooks and iBooks include the necessary hardware--"W Enhanced Trackpad"--needed to use this feature. Apparently, Apple simply started installing the newer trackpad when supplies of the older component ran out.

This information comes to us from one obviously observant and skilled Daniel Becker. From checking your iBook or PowerBook for the "W Enhanced Trackpad" and gathering the software components needed for installation, Daniel has done a fine job.

However, please note this "hack" isn't for the faint of heart as it requires a bit o' command-line magic. Not rocket science, mind you, but a surety of hand.

Who're you fooling?

I suppose it's understandable why Apple chose not to share this information with us--it wants to sell lots of "new" PowerBooks. Truly, this most-recent update is so scant on compelling "new" features they apparently felt the deception necessary.

Is this merely a quibble or was Apple wrong to withhold this detail?
